The early ones were good. But the later ones sucked.

Closest I ever came to buying a GM product was a black '79 4-speed.

MMMMmmmm I will own one one day. Then it and my Mustangs will race.

The early cars really do suffer unduly from the sins of the later cars.

My dad's 71 Stingray LT-1 agrees. He just finished painting it this past weekend.

Early models were beasts, but I didn't like the styling. The late models looked great in my eyes, but holy crap were they neutered.

Right around the time I turned 49 (almost two years ago), I found myself thinking, "Gee, a nice driver Corvette would be fun. Nothing super-exotic or rare, just a small-block, preferably a 4-speed, and air would be nice." This, from a lifelong Mopar guy. At Spring Carlisle in 2013, I came across a red '69 coupe, 350/4-speed, with "reasonable mileage" and air for under $18k. The Little Voice said, "I could make that happen." The Bigger Voice said, "I need to walk away now."

And I ran across a sweet Bryant Blue '72 with a blue interior(!), 350/auto with air, at a show in August, priced at $21k "or best reasonable offer," but by then I'd inherited a fifth Mopar.

I don't know if it's a "middle age" thing or what.

Own a 79, was it bogged down by emissions? Yes. However, it still had a 350, and with a carb+intake+cam+heads swap you can make 300-350hp easy for around 2k investment. Did it still have the sexy as hell early 70's Stingray lines? YES. Also, there is NO car that looks better with fender flares on it than a C3, please see mine as Exhibit A below.
